Fighting Plastic Pollution with Books: Bottle Binding™

Executive Summary

As a sustainable printing company based in China, the Pebble Printing Group is contributing to a cleaner environment by using 100% post-consumer recycled plastic waste as a material for binding books.

Despite the critical role of plastics in modern society, they have become a contentious issue of sustainability in the public eye. The most popular issue in their environmental impact is plastic pollution. In order to combat plastics in our environment, we must address it at the source. The majority of mismanaged plastic waste comes from Asia, and the largest contributor to ocean pollution is the Yellow River in China. We can reduce the burden on this body of water, and the environment at large, by accelerating the plastics recycling industry in China. We do this by using post-consumer recycled plastics in place of virgin materials sourced in the most at-risk areas of China.

Pebble Printing Group has developed a way to use post-consumer recycled plastics from at risk areas as a replacement for cotton in book binding. We call this solution Bottle Binding™. Combined with stone paper, these are two unique innovations by Pebble Printing Group that are reducing the impact of the traditional printing industry.
